GHK-Cu background

GHK-Cu is the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine bound to a copper(II) ion. Loren Pickart first isolated GHK from human plasma in 1973, and levels in plasma are reported to fall with age.

It binds copper tightly and is studied for wound healing, collagen production and skin repair. It’s also one of the most common actives in copper peptide skin care.

Mechanism of action

GHK binds copper tightly and can deliver it to cells. Copper is a cofactor for lysyl oxidase, the enzyme that cross-links collagen and elastin, and for antioxidant enzymes.

In cell and animal studies the peptide increased collagen and glycosaminoglycan production, attracted repair cells to wounds, and changed the activity of many genes involved in tissue remodeling.

Key details

  • Compound: GHK-Cu
  • Also known as: copper peptide, prezatide copper
  • CAS number: 49557-75-7
  • Structure: Gly-His-Lys bound to copper(II)
  • Sizes: 50mg, 100mg
  • Form: lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder in a crimp-sealed glass vial
  • SKU: ONYX-GHKCU
  • Use: laboratory research only

What the research reports

Maquart and colleagues reported in 1988 that the peptide stimulated collagen synthesis in cultured fibroblasts, and later rat wound-chamber studies found more collagen and glycosaminoglycan buildup.

Gene expression work by Pickart and colleagues suggests GHK can shift the activity of a large number of human genes, many tied to tissue repair and the antioxidant response.

Similar research compounds

Short version: GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide tied to collagen and tissue remodeling. Labs often weigh it against these:

  • Melanotan 2 is a cyclic melanocortin agonist studied for pigmentation

Skin research splits into copper peptide remodeling, pigment work with melanocortins and antioxidant studies. Every one of them is in stock in our skin and tanning peptides.

Checking your vials

Each vial carries the black and white Onyx Research label with the compound, the amount, 99% purity and the research-use line. Check that the name and amount match your order and that the cap and crimp are tight.

The powder should look dry and pale, either as a solid cake or loose granules. If the cake has crumbled in the box, that’s expected. Powder that looks wet, gummy or off-color is not, so keep that vial out of use and send us a photo.

Log the date the vial arrived and, later, when and how you mixed it. It’s quick, and it saves a lot of guesswork if something goes wrong.

GHK-Cu dilution chart

Concentration is simple division: the 50mg in the vial over the volume of water you add. Here’s the 50mg vial at three common volumes:

  • Add 2mL: 25mg/mL (2,500mcg per 0.1mL, or 10 units on a U-100 syringe)
  • Add 3mL: 16.67mg/mL (1,666.7mcg per 0.1mL, or 10 units on a U-100 syringe)
  • Add 5mL: 10mg/mL (1,000mcg per 0.1mL, or 10 units on a U-100 syringe)

Use bacteriostatic water, added slowly down the inside of the vial. Swirl, don’t shake. If some powder sticks to the glass, rest the vial in the fridge for a few minutes and swirl again.

Keeping the vial stable

Two rules cover the peptide storage: powder in the freezer, solution in the fridge. Keep both away from light and damp, since those break freeze-dried peptides down fastest.

Let a frozen vial come up to room temperature before you open it, or condensation forms on the powder.

Options and prices

Both options are on this page. Choose one from the option menu above the cart button:

  • 50mg: $42.50
  • 100mg: $57.50

The 100mg size works out cheapest per milligram, at about $0.57 per mg against $0.85 for the 50mg. The small vial is the better pick for a pilot run.
